Jamaica Hurricane Season 2023 Predictions

2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season Forecast

NOAA Predicts Above-Normal Activity

Due to Warm Ocean Temperatures

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center has released its forecast for the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season, predicting an above-normal number of storms.

The forecast calls for 14 to 21 named storms, with 6 to 10 of them becoming hurricanes and 3 to 6 becoming major hurricanes (Category 3 or higher).

The forecast is due to current ocean and atmospheric conditions, such as record-warm sea surface temperatures, which provide more energy for hurricanes to develop.

NOAA cautions that even as the season forecast calls for above-normal activity, it is important to remember that every season is different, and even in below-normal seasons, it only takes one hurricane making landfall to cause significant damage.

Residents in hurricane-prone areas should prepare now by developing an emergency plan, gathering supplies, and staying informed about the latest forecasts.
