Dolittle 2: Robert Downey Jr. Determined to Make Sequel Happen
Despite Critical and Financial Flop of First Film
Downey Jr. Hopes to Reunite Original Cast for Sequel
Despite the critical and financial failure of the first "Dolittle" film, Robert Downey Jr. is reportedly still determined to make a sequel. The actor, who starred in the title role, has reportedly been in talks with Universal Pictures about a follow-up film. If a sequel is greenlit, Downey Jr. hopes to reunite the original cast, which included Antonio Banderas, Michael Sheen, and Jim Broadbent.
The first "Dolittle" film was a critical and financial flop, grossing only $245 million worldwide against a production budget of $175 million. The film was also panned by critics, with many complaining about its uninspired script and lack of originality. Downey Jr. himself has admitted that the film was "a two-and-a-half-year wound of squandered opportunity."
Despite the failure of the first film, Downey Jr. believes that there is still potential for a successful sequel. He has reportedly been working on a new script for the film, which he hopes will address the criticisms of the first film. Downey Jr. is also confident that he can reunite the original cast for the sequel, which he believes will help to sell the film to audiences.
Whether or not a "Dolittle" sequel will actually happen remains to be seen. Universal Pictures has yet to make a decision on whether to greenlight the project. However, if Downey Jr. is successful in his efforts to get a sequel made, it will be interesting to see if he can turn the franchise around.
