New messages show Cruz's wife boasting about trip to neighbors
Senator Ted Cruz's family was pictured enjoying the sea, sand, and sunshine on the Mexican beaches of Cancún last week, despite the deadly winter storm that has left millions of Texans without power.
New text messages reviewed by Insider appear to show that Cruz's wife, Heidi, was planning the trip just hours before the family left. In one message, Heidi tells a neighbor that the family is "leaving in the morning for Cancun!"
The texts also show that Heidi was aware of the power outages and water shortages that were affecting millions of Texans at the time. In one message, she tells a neighbor that she is "so sorry" about the situation, but that the family is "going to Cancun for a few days."
Cruz's office has not responded to a request for comment on the text messages.
