Former Hearts midfielder Andy Irving has completed a surprise move to German third tier side Viktoria Koln.

The 23-year-old, who left Hearts at the end of his contract in May, has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Cologne-based club.

Irving, who can play in central midfield or on the wing, made 100 appearances for Hearts and scored 14 goals.

He was part of the Hearts team that won the Scottish Cup in 2019.

Irving's move to Germany is a surprise, as he was linked with a move to a number of clubs in England and Scotland.

However, he has opted to join Viktoria Koln, who are currently top of the German third tier.

Irving will be hoping to help Viktoria Koln win promotion to the Bundesliga 2.
